TIPITENT® Frequently Asked Questions
How many people can sleep in
the TIPITENT®?
The size of the TIPITENT® is calculated by the number
of people it can sleep in the "footprint".
The Mountain TIPITENT® can sleep 4-6. It sleeps 4
quite comfortably including gear. The size largely depends on your
style of camping. Using the TIPITENT® dimensions you can determine
which size is best suited for your needs. There is ample living
space and plenty of standing room in all sizes. Extended tenting
trips with lots of gear, the Mountain TIPITENT® would be a bit small
for 6 people but ideal for 2-3. The Outfitter TIPITENT® can sleep up
to 12. It is ideal for large groups or if you require a very
spacious area. The Outfitter TIPITENT® can accommodate 4 cots, lots
of gear and a woodstove very comfortably.
Why do these TIPITENT®s have
detachable floors?
Many TIPITENT® users welcome the detachable floor as
you do not need to use it for all trips saving extra weight and
bulk. It is more convenient setting the TIPITENT® up on uneven
terrain or in the snow.
For backpacker trips you can split up carrying the
floor and tent pole between packs. Their are many uses without the
floor advantageous to your situation.
How does the
TIPITENT® hold up in the wind?
The conical shape sheds the wind exceptionally
well. The stay mount guy lines ensure the TIPITENT® stays in
place even in strong winds. Use common sense and camp in the
most sheltered area possible.
How does the
TIPITENT® hold up in the snow?
The conical shape sheds the snow remarkably
well. When the snow fall accumulates you have to brush off any
build up.
How does the TIPITENT®
manage the rain?
The TIPITENT® is 100 percent waterproof so rain is
not a problem. The bottom storm skirt sheds all water away from the
base of the TIPITENT® so the inside floor area stays dry. In heavy
downpour moisture may intrude 4-5 inches within the storm skirt but
with the floor attached the inside stays dry.
What about condensation?
Being 100 percent waterproof, you will get some
condensation. The two air vents and the top cap opening alleviates
condensation to a minimum. Sleeping in the TIPITENT® even though
their may be some condensation you will remain nice and dry. In wet
and humid conditions, the TIPITENT® must be ventilated to allow
surplus condensation to escape. By leaving one of the entrance
zippers partly open and propping up the storm flap are extra
measures to elevate condensation. The use of a small fire, woodstove
or cooking stove eliminates it.
